BEYOND THE BRIDGE

by Tiny Domingos
on 25.03, from 19:00 h: Opening of the video presentation
on 26.03, at 19:00 h: Artist talk with Sebastian Unger

Tiny Domingos‘ digital collage „Beyond the Mirabeau Bridge“ takes up the circumstances of Paul Celan’s suicide thematically and motivically. Celan jumped to his death, presumably on the 20th of June 1970, from the Pont Mirabeau bridge in Paris and was only found several days later downstream (which already anticipates a kind of black-out of the death narrative).

What is particularly remarkable about this artistic adaptation is the power of colour and design that ironically emerges as a concept of life behind this death – suicide as a poetological act of leaping towards the super-personal. The colour and light contrasts of these two stations before and after the jump also point in this direction: The contrast of jumping down from the dark bridge over the Seine (which in its darkness is taken from the local contexts of life) into a light system, which as an extension of the jump is precisely not a private darkness, a black water of the river, but a consistent condensation of the event in the language of the bereaved (the condensation of the person in his biographical circumstances, the personal motives, the inevitable fate in the sense of a constriction [stretto] of the person, down, that is, into the unliving death), but a leap into the expanse, as a golem, into the clay, into the unconditional barefootness, into a context of creation.
